Fancy Colored
Diamonds are without question the most talked about commodity in the gem
world today. Long accepted within the jewelry community, smart
collectors are acquiring these exotic stones, anticipating a sharp
increase in both demand and value. Fancy Pink, Blue and Black are
currently in vogue, with Black Diamonds especially, being the leading
trend setter because of their uniqueness and affordability for the
average retail consumer.

Pink Diamonds:
There are
many variations of pink, and the label pink embraces a broad range of
colors. Pure pink colored diamonds with no trace of a secondary
modifying color are extremely rare. |

Red Diamonds:
The range of
color tone for red diamonds is small, limited in both lightness and
saturation. Positioned on the spectrum between orange and the infrared,
red is spoken of as a warm color. |

Orange Diamonds:
The range of color tone for orange diamonds is quite variable in
lightness and saturation. Orange is also a perceived color
resembling the peel of a common orange. The noted color tones
are pale, dull, bright and deep. |

Brown Diamonds:
The brown diamond is said to have a color hue resembling
chestnuts, chocolate or freshly dug soil. The lightness for
brown diamonds can range from very light (champagne) to very
dark (coffee). Saturation is also quite variable resulting in
bright( golden) or deep (cognac). |

Yellow Diamonds:
The range of color tone for yellow diamonds is also quite
variable especially in saturation. Pale, dull, bright and deep
the yellow hue has always been perceived as resembling the peel
of a lemon. |

Green Diamonds:
Green is a cool color when tinged with blue and a warm color
when tinged with yellow. The range of color tones for green
diamonds is variable in both lightness and saturation resulting
in pale, dull, bright and deep variations. |

Blue Diamonds:
Positioned on the spectrum between violet and green, blue may
contain secondary color modifiers such as black, gray or green.

Purple Diamonds:
Purple is a
non-spectral color, denoting a range of colors between red and violet on
a color wheel. Purple with tints of brown, pink or red are spoken of as
being warm colors, whereas purple with tints of gray or black are spoken
of as cold colors. |

Black Diamonds:
A
non-spectral color, it is also a neutral color lacking saturation yet
having a measurable range of lightness. Individual black colors can vary
in tone, resulting in pale, charcoal black, dull black and bright, gun
metal black, all having weak saturation. |
